Nursing Home Week Highlights!
May 22, 2024
The theme was "Radiant Memories: A Tribute to the Golden Age of Radio." Nursing Home Week kicks off each year on Mother’s Day, encouraging skilled nursing care centers across the country to host a variety of events that honor the individuals who reside, work, and volunteer in nursing centers. We spend months planning to make this week special for everyone, and it's always filled with smiles and laughter. The weather was beautiful for our beach day, allowing us to reminisce about the memories we've made while listening to the sound waves. Our nursing home residents and staff contribute to creating these "radiant memories," with plenty from this year and years past.
Radio broadcasts have played a pivotal role in American life, from presidential addresses and war updates to old-time radio dramas and American Top 40 hits. Families and friends often gathered around the radio to hear the latest music and tune into their favorite shows. ,
We made countless special memories throughout the week, making it hard to pick a favorite. On Monday, we celebrated by going back to our country roots with entertainers Bobby and Jimmy. Tuesday was Popstar Day, featuring a food truck with street tacos. Wednesday was 60s Day, with songs dedicated to loved ones, followed by a cookout and slip-and-slide fun on Thursday for Beach Day. One resident said, “I feel like a kid again. That was so fun!” We also had a cookout where Eva said, “The potato salad was really good." Friday brought Elvis to the building for Rock and Roll Day, complete with wheelchair decorations and a parade to close out the week.
We're immensely grateful to the Activities Department, staff, and families who made this week special. We know it’s a lot of work, and the planning never stops!
We love creating special memories for our residents at Siena Gardens through activities, events, outings, and more. See what else we’ve been up to by scrolling through our “News” section or clicking the button below. News
