Recharging in Nature
September 13, 2023
Amidst the quiet halls of Siena Gardens, anticipation swirled like a gentle breeze as residents prepared for an outing to the beautiful Woodland Mound Park. Wheels rolled, hands held walkers, and faces lit up with smiles as we embarked on a much-awaited park adventure to rekindle memories, forge new friendships, and breathe life into our golden years.
The breathtaking view of the Ohio River Valley from Breezy Point Pavilion makes this 1,070-acre park extra special to visit. The residents enjoyed the fresh air and exercise as we strolled down the paths and took in the refreshing views around us. We learned so much about the Woodland Mound and all of its creatures and flowers. Our residents spoke about fond memories of bringing their families to visit when they were younger, and how much it has changed over the years. We ended our outing with a stop at Frisch’s and ate in the shelter house.
In long-term care settings, it's so important to provide opportunities for activities and outings for residents. Having access to social activities helps residents build relationships and community, which in turn fosters a sense of belonging and well-being. These activities can reduce loneliness and cognitive decline as well as assist seniors in maintaining a higher level of physical activity. Better sleep improves physical health, increases stamina, improves mood and concentration, and the ability to continue learning and living life to the fullest.
Our residents at Siena Gardens loved this outing and felt rejuvenated afterward. We look forward to taking them out as much as possible this fall season and recharging in nature.
